Of Two Burning Forces

Walpurgis Night and May Day are strongly connected. The night of 30th April is known in German folklore as the Night of the Witches, while at the same time carrying the name of an English abbess. Traditionally, Walpurgis was a night of ecstasy, celebrating love and fertility at the height of spring between spring equinox and summer solstice. Until today, people dance the night into May, followed by going onto the streets on the 1st of May, which has become known globally as International Worker’s Day.

Join us in exploring the roots of festivities around these dates, discussing the local history of witches & May Day rites, and write along with us in our writing prompts.

Material from our Writing Prompts was kindly provided to us by German author and artist Florian Schäfer from www.forgottencreatures.de
